Staffing Model
Cloverdale House maintains a robust staffing model that ensures appropriate levels of supervision and support at all times. We believe that consistent, well-trained staff are essential to delivering high-quality care and building the trusting relationships that children need to thrive.
Our staffing model ensures a minimum of three staff on duty during the day, with waking night staff providing continuous overnight supervision. On-call management support is available at all times for guidance and escalation of concerns.
We provide individualised support to each young person, ensuring that staffing levels and skills are matched to the needs of the children currently in residence. This may include additional staff or specialist support when required.

Recruitment & Safer Practice
We follow rigorous safer recruitment practices to ensure that all staff are suitable to work with children and young people.
Enhanced DBS Checks
All staff undergo enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks before commencing employment. This includes checks against the barred lists for working with children, ensuring that no unsuitable person has access to the young people in our care.
Identity Verification
We conduct thorough identity verification for all candidates, including right-to-work checks, to ensure the authenticity and eligibility of every member of staff working at Cloverdale House.
Structured Interviews
Our recruitment process includes structured interviews that assess candidates’ values, attitudes, and suitability for working with vulnerable children. We explore motivations, understanding of safeguarding, and commitment to trauma-informed practice.
Reference Checks
Comprehensive reference checks are obtained for all candidates, including references from previous employers in the social care sector. Any gaps in employment history are explored to ensure complete transparency and confidence in our recruitment decisions.
Supervision & Training
We are committed to the ongoing development of our staff, recognising that well-trained, well-supported practitioners deliver the best outcomes for children and young people.
All staff receive formal supervision every 4–6 weeks, providing a structured space for reflective practice, case discussion, and personal development. Supervision ensures that staff remain supported, accountable, and focused on delivering high-quality care.
Our mandatory training programme covers safeguarding, behaviour management, first aid, trauma-informed care, and equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI). We also support staff in achieving the Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare, ensuring that our team has the professional qualifications necessary for their roles.

Care Planning
Our care planning process is comprehensive, collaborative, and designed to ensure that each young person receives the individualised support they need.
Comprehensive Placement Plans
Every young person has a comprehensive placement plan that sets out their needs, the support they will receive, and the outcomes we are working towards. These plans are developed collaboratively with the child, their family, social worker, and other professionals.
Matching Process
We operate a careful matching process to ensure that new admissions are compatible with the existing group of young people. This considers the needs, ages, and circumstances of all residents to maintain a stable and harmonious home environment.
Pre-Placement Visits
Where possible, we facilitate pre-placement visits so that the young person can see the home, meet the staff and other residents, and begin to feel comfortable before they move in. This helps reduce anxiety and supports a smoother transition.
Keywork Sessions
Each young person has a designated keyworker who provides one-to-one support through regular keywork sessions. These sessions allow the young person to discuss their progress, raise concerns, and work on personal goals in a supportive, confidential setting.
Multi-Agency Working
We work closely with a range of professionals and agencies, including Looked After Children (LAC) reviews, Personal Education Plan (PEP) meetings, and other multi-agency forums. This ensures a coordinated, holistic approach to each child’s care and development.
